Now a Major Motion Picture: A Book Review

Written by Cori McCarthy, Now a Major Motion Picture (out April 3rd) follows Iris, the granddaughter of a famous fantasy novelist, as she and her younger brother journey to Ireland to watch the filming of their grandmother’s first novel on screen.

I loved this book.

The characters have depth without relying on a lot of dialog. What they do, how they react, tells us about them. In fact, this book is not detail focused. I also really enjoyed the fact that we get a lot of perspectives on the fantasy worlds and how people view them. And how stories effect everyone differently, for different reasons.

Getting to live out a little bit of fantasy that we all have, as nerds, to be there when they are filming these amazing movies. See what goes into them. Plus, the star-studded cast, of course.

Plus, there is a wonderfully sweet romance in this book. That isn’t the focus at all. But it is so sweet.

And Irish. Lots of Irish. Though, the author didn’t phonetically sound out the accent, which would have been nice. For me. I like that. Not everyone does though. It was hard for me to read it with accents without.

This might not be the book for high fantasy lovers. It could be if you have been looking for something more realistic. Then, this could be great. There is no fighting, sorry.

Light romance, a sweet story, and a sincere look at how our families shape us, this novel was wonderful.
