All Systems Red: A Book Review

Written by Martha Wells, All Systems Red (affiliate link) follows Murderbot (yes, that is how he refers to himself), a SecUnit (security unit that is both a robot and has organic parts) on his current mission to protect his clients from all the things that can kill them. The fact that he has hacked himself and actually doesn’t have to listen to them has lead to him watching a lot of TV.

This is a Novella at under 150 pages, and is the first in the Murderbot Diaries. And I have been hooked. This sarcastic bot is so very human (and has some human parts. I’d argue he is mostly human, but that’s just me), which means that how he looks at the world is hilarious and that he is (despite what he thinks) very good at his job.

The fact that he has hacked his control mod? That just makes him better, because now he can actually put his clients first instead of putting his company first.

If you like science fiction, go read this. Its short and you will probably get hooked.
