Magic Lost, Trouble Found: A Book Review

Written by Lisa Shearin, the first novel of the Raine Benares series follows Raine, an Elven sorceress who is a finder with a bit of skill. And this story starts with Raine and her cousin coming to the rescue of her employee as he finds trouble when stealing a certain necklace. Then hunting and royal rivalry and serious magic and a couple friendly to Raine guys get involved.

This was a very fun read, and Raine is a fantastic character that I can’t wait to see which of the guys she eventually ends up with. Will it be the dark goblin who cares for her, or the good guy guardian who seems to want to make a claim…?

But, really, this isn’t a romance. There are bits of romance, but this is much more a swashbuckling magical adventure fantasy than anything else. I mean, one of the characters is literally an Elven pirate. How interesting and fun is that? There is so much action and it just enhances the amazing characters in this book.

The writing is good. It flows, it keeps your attention, and the author knows where she is going and how she wants to get there. A fantastic fantasy read.
