Bulwark: A Book Review

Written by Brit Lunden, Bulwark is a paranormal thriller (if you can’t tell by the title) that follows Sherif Clay, a man who, after losing his daughter, had his wife walk out on him the day before. Now he is having to deal with a couple claiming a witch took their kids and a random, smelly puddle out of nowhere.

This is a thriller that really, if you didn’t know it was a thriller, would catch you a bit out of the blue. In a good way. Lunden builds up the characters and the world (this is a 133 page book, so it’s as bare bones as they can get away with), and hints at the bad things that are going to happen. The bad starts out very indirect to the main character, but as we slowly learn what is happening now and what happened to his family, it just get’s darker and darker.

The writing is excellent and kept me engaged. The only negative for this novella, IF YOU LIKE THRILLERS AND PARANORMAL, is the fact that there are two endings. I wish they would have just given us one, and stuck with it. hidden the other ending somewhere on their website or something like that.

I don’t want to say anything more than that. There is a solid twist, related directly to the main character, that really pushes this into the realm of being a thriller. And I refuse to tell you.

But, if you enjoy a short thriller that, mostly, is well wrapped up by the end, give this story a shot. If you like creepy paranormal stories, you will highly enjoy this story.
