Written by Peter Swanson, 8 Perfect Murders follows Malcolm Kershaw, a book store co-owner who is approached by an FBI agent when a series of murders seem to, very vaguely, follow a list of books that he published years ago about 8 perfect murders in fiction. Or, nearly perfect murders.
I’m gonna stop right here. I didn’t like this book, and here is why.
The writing was decent, the characters interesting, and the pacing of the book didn’t bother me (it’s very slow and picks up at the end).
My problem, is that within the first few chapters I knew how the rest of the book was going to turn out. There were a few twists, but I understood from the beginning how this book was going to end and what happened to the characters. And, in a mystery, I don’t want it to be that easy, or, if it is that easy, I want a more interesting journey to get there.
