The Last House on Needless Street: A Book Review

Written by Catriona Ward, this novel follows Ted, an adult man, his daughter Lauren, their cat Olivia, as well as some neighbors and others.

Ted lives alone, and let me tell you, his life is trippy. This was a book that I had to work to get through, as I’d say it is a horror novel right on Steven King’s street, and I don’t play over there much anymore.

But, Ward did a fantastic job in tackling this difficult character situation (which I won’t tell you about as it would be a spoiler, and I am aiming for spoiler-free here). One of the things that she did really well was clearly switching between the narrators, which I appreciate to absolutely no end.

Overall, this book ended up being very, very good. But it is not for everyone. If you enjoy thriller mysteries that are dark and stay dark, this could be for you. I’m talking All The Missing Girls dark. Or, if you like Steven King, I think this could be worth it for you to try out.

But if you want something happy or with romance, please, please just walk away from the green book.
