Written by Axie Oh, this novel follows Mina who chooses to sacrifice herself so that her beloved brother can love and marry the woman who loves him. So, she becomes the Sea God’s Bride in her stead.
This is such a wonderful novel, the writing is fantastic and the characters are amazing. If you are a fan of Miyazaki films, I think that you will love this wonderful folk-style story.
Mina is such a strong, real character, and all of the spirits, gods, and mythic creatures that help her along the way reinforce that. Shin shows what it is to be honorable, and the twists at the end of the story just fit so perfectly with what is being told.
I don’t think I can even come up with words to describe how much I enjoyed this book. I completely and utterly recommend this novel to anyone who likes retellings, enjoys fantasy, and likes sweet romance that isn’t what we think of when we think of romance.
