Written by Joanne Pence, The Music Box follows Paavo Smith and Angie Amalfi, a recently engaged homicide detective and an heiress, as they figure out why they are suddenly targeted in a series of home invasions, and how it may be related to a music box that Paavo’s mother loved and he recently gifted to his fiance.
This is the 8th book in the Cook and Inspector Mystery series, and the first one that I have read. And, honestly, I don’t think you need to have read the previous ones. I was a bit confused about who some of the folks were, but the author did a good job of light summarization to catch up the reader while still keeping the story going.
This is a proper cozy mystery, in my opinion. It’s a fun read with a solid mystery. (I will resist describing said mystery and leave it for the next reader.) This is a thumbs up from me. If you enjoy cozy mysteries (without any spice) but want a sweet side romance and a good who-dun-it with some surprising twists and turns, this is a great choice.
I did receive a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
