Written by Graeme Simsion, The Rosie Effect (affiliate link) is the sequel to The Rosie Project. Now, we find our main character Don in New York City with his wife (they haven’t even made it to a year yet) and his life squishing him from all sides. Between a baby on the way, having to deal with Gene living with them, and more stress, we follow Don on this new adventure.
The writing was great, the characters fantastic, but I just didn’t really like this book. The first one was real, and this one is to, but this one is so… I don’t like what Don had to go through. The first one was a lot more realistic, and this one went to some interesting extremes, including how Don gets into trouble.
The ending ended up feeling a lot like the first novel. And, in a way, overall this felt a lot like the first novel. Don is accidentally getting himself into trouble, partially because of people who initially don’t like him.
If you really loved the first one for the plot and struggles, you may enjoy this one just as much. I didn’t.
