The Skeleton Haunts a House: A Book Review

Another book in the Family Skeleton Mysteries by Leigh Perry, The Skeleton Haunts a House (why yes, another affiliate link) picks up with Georgia and Sid once again, only this time it is actually Halloween time. The two of them are attending the local haunted house, where – you guessed it! – a body is found.

Dun dun DUNN!

Alright. That is the set-up, and below is the front cover, as I have realized that those of you wonderful readers who only get this in your e-mail never get to see the cover (oops).

Alright, so, let’s start with the writing. Overall, this was well written and easy to ready, though the wording this time for some reason just felt… slow to me. The plot’s pace was well done, just the word choice made it a bit slow for me.

The plot was interesting, and very engaging. As time went on, more and more things were revealed and, honestly, at the start of the novel, even half way through, I had no idea who the real killer was. Normally this is just because things are poorly written, this one isn’t the case. The information about the killer and pertaining to the victim came out slowly and deliberately. It worked.

The characters were better than in the last novel, they were deeper and the love interest was sweet and just that, interesting. I really hope he makes an appearance in the next two books!

Overall, this was a good mystery, better than most cozy mysteries, and the use of the characters and situations was wonderful. Highly recommend to mystery lovers.
