The Rosie Project: A Book Review

Written by Graeme Simsion, The Rosie Project follows Don, a man who I think has some form of autism, as he attempts to find a wife. Enter Rosie, and accidental date that turned out to be the worst candidate. Or, at least that’s what Don thinks.

This was a really enjoyable novel. If you think too hard about it, the plot is extra improbable, but the rational behind all of the choices that led to the actions is surprisingly sound given the characters.

The big thing that this novel does – and this isn’t a new novel, just one chosen for book club – is the writing perspective is from a very analytical mind.

I enjoyed this so much that I am a little afraid to read the sequel. This novel was so good, and I know that their lives went on, but I don’t want anything bad to happen to either of them.

Could be that is a good point to take away from what this series is, and what this book is. Life is full of random adventures – some good, some bad – but, it is possible to make up for what you have done or lack. Just as it is possible to be accepted for who you are. You don’t need to fill a role to be accepted.

A really enjoyable read, no fantasy in this one, and highly recommend.

If you are a fan of contemporary stories, definitely read this. If you like realistic people and relationships, read this. If you enjoy fantasy and fighting… well, you could get your fighting fix out of this, but not your fantasy.
